UNCHAINED MEMORIES – SLAVE NARRATIVES

In honor of African History Month Wo’se Community presents this riveting documentary of American slave narratives. In the late 1930s, an estimated 100,000 former slaves were still alive— and in the midst of the Great Depression, more than 2,300 of them were interviewed as a part of the Federal Writers’ Project. Transcripts of their first-person anecdotes form the Slave Narratives collection of the Library of Congress, a unique firsthand record of human bondage.
This classic documentary brings the collection to life through emotionally charged, in-character readings by celebrated African-American actors. Archival photographs, authentic slave-era music, footage evoking the harsh legacy of slavery in America, and period images are interspersed throughout, along with comments by the performers themselves. Angela Bassett, Michael Boatman, Roscoe Lee Browne, Don Cheadle, Sandra Daley, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Robert Guillaume, Jasmine Guy, Samuel L. Jackson, CCH Pounder, LaTanya Richardson, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Roger Guenveur Smith, Courtney B. Vance, Vanessa L. Williams, Oprah Winfrey, and Alfre Woodard are featured. Deeply disturbing, painfully illuminating, and absolutely riveting, Unchained Memories speaks the unvarnished truth through the words of those who had little left to lose and nothing to gain by telling it.

ZEITGEIST, THE MOVIE

Zeitgeist is a German expression meaning "the spirit of the age". The Movie is a 2007 documentary film by Peter Joseph about historical and modern occurrences, including the origins of Christianity, the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and the banking system.

Part I, entitled "The Greatest Story Ever Told," questions religions as being god-given stories, arguing that the Christian religion specifically is mainly derived from other religions, astronomical facts, astrological myths and traditions, which in turn were derived from or shared elements with others. In furtherance of the Jesus myth hypothesis, this part argues that the historical Jesus is a literary and astrological hybrid, nurtured politically in the interest of control.
